Facilities at Winscombe Court

Tennis

The all-weather tennis court, known as the ‘Winsome Court’ has hosted many a competitive family tournament. With a viewing gallery from the roof terrace or surrounding lawns, it’s a show court to dazzle spectators. Rackets & balls are provided but feel free to bring your own. Balls lost to the adjacent grazing field will need to be foregone! There is also a football goal and basketball net available for guest use.

Roof Terrace

The perfect summer lounging spot, the roof terrace provides incredible views over the Mendips and is an ideal spot for stargazing on a cloudless night where the minimal light-pollution affords one of the best night-sky vistas in the country. There is a decked coffee area with outdoor furniture, putting green and a ‘hut’ that houses loungers, bean bags, picnic blankets, putters and balls and other outdoor paraphernalia. Please note, we kindly request that guests do not use the roof terrace between 9pm and 8am and respect the AONB status of the area and of course, our neighbours.

Putting Green

Crowning the expansive lawned roof-terrace sits the 4-hole putting green. Putters and balls are provided (in the terrace hut). Please note that the green is for putting only! Chipping (and driving!) is prohibited and children require supervision. The putting green provides a perfect warm-up for the wide range of stunning golf courses in driving proximity to Winscombe. Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, a world-renowned Championship Links course that has hosted the Brabazon Trophy and English Amateur Championships is 20 minutes away. Golf Monthly ranks it inside the top 30 courses in Great Britain & Ireland.

Children & Babies

There is a selection of children’s toys and games, a trampoline, treehouse, a separate play-house, wooded play area & nature trail. Children’s tennis rackets are provided for use on the all-weather court and a football goal and basketball hoop are also kept on the tennis court. NB. Babies and children are most welcome. Two travel cots, two highchairs and children’s cutlery and crockery are available on request.

Snooker

The Billiards room on the first floor is fully equipped with balls, cues, rests, bridges, spiders, chalk, scoreboard as well as a bar (not stocked!) and barstools. The renowned massage chair also lives in the Billiards room as does the sports memorabilia collection. We ask that children are always supervised in the Billiards room.

Sports Memorabilia

The sports memorabilia collection is one of the highlights of the house and lives in the Billiards room. Collected over many years, primarily from charity auctions, it includes a Muhammad Ali signed glove, Maradona & Pele signed shirts, an England ‘66 signed team photo, a Michael Jordan signed miniature model and many more original and jaw-dropping pieces. Our favourite is Jack Nicklaus’ signed match-worn cap from The British Open in 2005, his final appearance at a Major (of which he won a world record 18).

Wi-Fi

In spite of the thickness of the walls and previous failed attempts including 3 differently supplied routers, we now have a reliable Wi-Fi network throughout the house and spa building and many outdoor areas including the roof terrace.

Spa

The spa building has a 30 degree heated pool (with a shallow and deep end), a sauna and hot tub. It also has a kitchenette, seating area, loungers and changing rooms for male and female with showers and a separate unisex WC. Towels are provided. Please note, children require constant supervision if using the spa facilities. Further information can be found on the spa page.

Barbecue/Pizza area

The outdoor barbecue and pizza oven are available for guest use and the area is located just outside the main kitchen and main entrance. Coals, firelighters, matches and cooking utensils are provided.

Outdoor dining

There are several spots for eating outdoors with seated areas at the front and side of house (by the barbecue). The barbecue area can seat up to 26 guests and the round table at the front of the house can seat 12.

Electric Vehicles

There is a 7kW EV charge point available for guest use near the front of the house (by the garage). Typically, this will charge an average EV from empty to full in just under 8 hours.

Parking

We recommend guests unload at the house and then park to the left of the entrance gate by the spa building. This can fit up to 8 vehicles and ensures the front of the house remains clear from an aesthetics perspective. Additional parking by the front of the house is available if guests prefer and the gravelled area and EV charge point can fit up to 10 cars. The driveway gate requires an entry code but automatically opens on exit.

This backing track (Piano Concerto No 21 in C Major) was completed by Mozart in the same month that Winscombe Court was completed in March 1785!
